B-2 Spirit "Stealth Bomber"

This thing doesn't look like it should fly, but here it is!   You can see a standard red navigation warning light on the far right-hand edge of the wing, under combat conditions this would be retracted and it certainly wouldn't be flashing!

It's a large aircraft, with a wingspan of 172 feet (52 meters) and a height of 17 feet (5 meters), so despite appearances there's plenty of standing room inside for the crew of two pilots.

Ever looked through the front windshield of a B-2 bomber?   Well, you have now.   Look closely and you'll even see the head of one of the pilots.

The B-2 can fly for 6000 miles (9600 kilometers) without refuelling (New York to London is less than 3500 miles or 5600 kilometers).

During the Kosovo conflict B-2s flew round trips of 30 butt crunching hours from their only base, in the American state of Missouri.

You can get a very good idea of the plane's profile from this photo.

The B-2 is only 69 feet (21 meters) long, so the shape you see here isn't a trick of perspective!
